Sergi Nicolas: The Streetboarding Maestro and His Ride to the Top

Sergi Nicolas, the Catalan wonder, born in 1985, isn't just another name in the streetboarding realm; he's the heartbeat of the sport and a seven-time world champion (and counting). At 28, with 15 years of skating behind him, Sergi's accolades speak volumes, but it's his chilled demeanor and street-smart savvy that really tell his story.

1. The Champion’s Chronicle
Sergi’s not the type to brag, but his trophy case would do it for him if it could talk. Peeking into his track record is like diving into a streetboarding legend's diary. From clinching the world championship in street in sunny Mallorca in 2010 to conquering the vert podiums, Sergi has been around the world, leaving his mark from the urban sprawls of Austria to the bustling streets of Beijing in 2012. He’s more than a rider; he’s streetboarding royalty who’s been grinding rails and taking names since he could barely call himself a teen.

2. Drop-Inn: The Boarder's Haven
In the heart of Barcelona, there's a spot where the streets and the boards meet - Drop-Inn, Sergi’s own haven for riders. More than just a store, it's the embodiment of his passion for streetboarding. At Drop-Inn, kids swap kickflips for textbooks after school, and the local scene converges, united by the four wheels beneath their feet. It’s a place that’s part shop, part shrine to the sport, and all about the community.

3. The Streetboard Renaissance Man
Sergi isn't just the guy carving up the street scene; he’s been a driving force behind its rebirth. After the crash of major players Snakeboard USA and Anderson Boards in 1997, Sergi stepped in around the year 2000, becoming a key distributor, breathing life into the sport’s sails. Then, in 2002, alongside Gabi Muñoz and Yago Ferrer, he laid the foundation of the very first streetboarding school, Onlystreet, nurturing the next generation of riders.

4. The Legacy of Sergi Nicolas
Imagine a teenager, propelled by the sheer thrill of streetboarding, growing up to be the face of the sport he loves. That’s Sergi for you. A prodigy turned pro, who has lived his life one half-pipe at a time. And it's not just about the titles; it's about the influence, the inspiration, and the indelible mark he's leaving on streetboarding. From nurturing new talent like the awe-inspiring Erik Brun to running the coolest boarding hub in Barcelona, Sergi’s life is a testament to the sport's exhilarating spirit.

Whether he’s catching a tube on the waves or landing a flawless fs smith down a 15 stair rail, Sergi embodies the soul of streetboarding. His laid-back vibe, combined with a relentless pursuit of excellence, continues to propel the sport to new heights. For Sergi, streetboarding isn’t just a sport; it’s a way of life that keeps rolling, no matter where the board takes him.

The sound of a skate sliding down the road. The impact of the board when hitting the sidewalk. The roar of the air as it enters a subway mouth. The noise of the vehicles when getting out of it. Skater Skull arrives with strength, a new design by Mixergraph from your favorite sock company. Fully printed.

Roll up your pants and put them on. Intoxicate yourself with the feeling of a city that borders hysteria.

Hello Sexy Sockers,
Hope you're doing well and enjoying your summer as much as we are ;)

This weekend we're attending Resurrection Festival, the biggest Spanish Metal act that brings together more than 90.000 people in a small town in the North-West corner of the Peninsula.

If you're around Viveiro this weekend you should know that the American Socks team will be bringing you  surprise. Acoustic performances of your favourite artists + a Karaoke open mic to prove your talent.

Thanks to Yamaha and Rockzone for helping us setting this amazing concept!

We teamed up with the legendary Ska-Punkers from Gainesville, Less Than Jake to design a collaboration sock for their official merchandise: Mid High and logo all around.

Less Than Jake are one of those bands that started back in the 90's and today they are still alive and kicking while putting out albums like "Live from Astoria" (2016) or "See the Light" (2013).
This summer they've been performing and messing up on Warped Tour under the slogan of "Make Warped Tour Great Again. We had to make it happen!

Inspired by the rasta colors, we built a sock that's ready for the extreme touring the band is doing on a daily basis.
For those who are there for the skanking, the reinforced heel, toe and a cushioned sole will keep your feet safe.

Remember, the guys are back in Europe during the next weeks. Don't miss them...and get some socks at their merch table!

¡Vamos a ello!

Make it rain

4. Viviéndolo a tope

Vamos a ver, ¿POR QUÉ?

    • No mates a tus amigos.

5 Things to do at Palo Alto Market

With this hot weather comes a fresh Palo Alto. Head to Poblenou this weekend for this stylish market's Beach edition. As well as a wide range of wares for sales—design, vintage, handmade—there are also workshops, galleries and live music performances, and organic, gourmet and street food stalls. You can spend the whole day shopping, then grab some delicious food to keep your energy up.

American Socks is having an exposition of the latest sock releases. All the range of Knee High, Mid High and Ultra High including the SS16 Collection.

Here's what you can do during the weekend:

1. Stroll Around.

Palo Alto is a rally rad place to visit. Located in Poblenou 100m away from the beach, is a beautiful spot, a 1900's industrial factory converted today into a Park with plenty of designer and art offices. Once every month a fashion, music and food market takes over and it becomes a crowded and elegant place to be.

2. Buy Something.

Local designers and brands expose their latest releases, if you're looking into vintage clothing, sunglasses or socks (há!) you'll get great deals and special discounts. It's your chance to get some American Socks for a lower price. If you hang around telling everyone you're a famous fashion blogger...maybe you'll get stuff for free. Liar!

3. Grab a meal at a Food Truck.

The gastronomic offer is HUGE. You can get Sushi, Burgers and even the best tapas in town, everything made at the moment with the finest ingredients. Prices are NOT cheap but you're getting top quality meals. For dessert, how does a Crêpe sound?

4. Listen to live music.

Palo Alto Market ambiance gets it's cherry with music. 3 different stages will transport you to the Barcelona vibe. Check their website for timings and performances here.

5. Drink the typical Vermut.

The sour drink, you love it or hate it, tastes best with some tapas. Ask for it at the bars and start some conversation with local people.

See you there :)

SURVIVAL GUIDE: Music festivals

For us who live for the music, summer is merrier than Christmas. Yeah, sure, when it is Christmas time you get to see your family, eat amazing food and hopefully you will get some presents (American socks, maybe?) but when summer lands, music festivals arrive with it.

We did a tough research and talked to the most prestigious universities to create this SURVIVAL GUIDE for MUSIC FESTIVALS. Well, we didn't talk to no university, but we are all survivors and we all know a trick or two, so get ready because here we go!

1. Planning it

It should be a no-brainer. Find the one that makes you say "Oh, man..." every time you read the lineup. Get the money for it (no questions asked, we are not cops) and get ready.
Make it rain
Book the flights if you have too, convince a few friends (use puppy eyes if necessary) and tell your boss your aunt is having a surgery and those days you need to take care of her. Note: Please, make sure your boss and your aunt don't know each other.

2. Packing for it

Every music fest is different. Is it gonna be indoors? Will you be out in the sun all day? Is it a rainy place? Make sure you check the weather before you pack. If you go to cold places remember to bring a warm beanie and extra socks (we are not just saying it because we want to sell them, your feet will get cold as f*ck at night). If you go to a sunny place bring sunglasses and some kind of hat (people with ridiculous hats are always nice to meet and have cool stories).

Just in case, always bring:
- A rain poncho
- A flashlight. Yes, we know your phone has a flashlight but, trust us, the batteries are always dead when you need them the most.
Rain poncho - Willy

3. Locating yourself in it

Okay, you get to the venue/camping zone. Wait patiently because it will take a while. In fact you will have to wait patiently for almost everything, so relax. If you go to a hotel, find it and leave all the heavy stuff there. If you stay in a RV, find a nice place for it. If you camp with the rest of the warriors... Try to find a place NOT TOO CLOSE TO THE RESTROOMS. We know that having the Peeing Palace close seems like a nice idea now, but in 20 hours that zone will have a BIOHAZARD alert. You will need to walk for a midnight pee, but the other option is way worse.
zombie
The ugly truth they dont tell you: most zombie outbreaks start at a festival's bathroom.

4. Living it

    • Get a program and find your favorite bands. See that they don't overlap (if they do, we are really sorry, we know the pain) and create a schedule. Hold that paper like it is your life.

    • Remember that COMFORTABLE >>>>>> STYLISH. Wear comfy clothes and SHOES. We all have seen that girl (or boy, we don't judge) wearing high heels and we all wondered WHY. We are sure you can find the perfect balance. Rock it, but take it easy.
blaire - pain
    • WEAR SUNSCREEN. Capital letters, yes. We don't care if you come from a sunny country, we don't care if you are addicted to self-tanning. WEAR SUNSCREEN. Being all red and in pain can destroy the whole experience and can cause future health problems. We love you, guys, we just want you to be safe.
sunburn
    • Wear earplugs if possible. During the festival they will protect your ears from loud music. During the night they will help you ignore the couple trying to conceive a baby two tents away.

    • Protect your head with a hat and your eyes with sunglasses. It adds +500 COOLNESS to the pictures and you can be hangover, no one will tell (hopefully).
hungover smelly

    • (Also) Drink water. We know beer is awesome and the other spirits can be amazing too, but remember that water is your best friend. A glass of water for every glass of alcohol will save you tomorrow.

    • Eat your carbs. You may be on a diet but the amount of energy you are going to use today will be outstanding. Bread, pasta, rice... They taste amazing and will keep you on track. Keep yourself fed or this will be you by the time your favorite band plays:

    • Don't kill your friends. I mean, first of all, it is illegal. Second of all, they are your friends. Maybe you want to go to different shows, but it is okay, you can make groups or you can go by yourself. Set a meeting point for every time someone gets lost and be patient. IMPORTANT NOTE: Don't kill the driver or the one with the keys of the room. Blood can be messy.

    • Forget the electronics. Don't tweet, don't take a lot of pictures, don't call your mom in the middle of a show. Phones get broken, ex-girlfriends/boyfriends get texted when drunk and cameras get lost. Just ENJOY THE GODDAMN SHOW.

But the most important part is : Have the time of your life, have fun and meet new people, That is what music festivals are about. See you in the mosh pit!kid pit
